Shop till you drop! Woodmill Lane Shopping Centre, established in 1990, is an amazing restoration of the old sawmill & timber factory, now a unique shopping centre and meeting place, the heart of the village. Quaint and friendly shops, unusual art & craft galleries, colourful boutiques & coffee shops. Wandering through the center, visitors can listen to lunchtime music and watch live entertainment. The shopfront and the mall area are made from recycled yellowwood from the original premises, old boiler rooms still exist (now in the form of shops) and dotted about, old sawmill chimneys, woodworking & power generating machines, all dating from the mid eighteen-hundreds can be seen and touched.
The Knysna Waterfront has an unusual array of shops – it boasts fine vintage wine, seafood, clothing, curios, jewelry, and much more. Shops like African Attitude with it’s beautiful colourful African arts & crafts, local clothing outlets such as Out of the Blue, Just Cruizin’ and more, not to mention an array of superb restaurants, are characteristic of the relaxed, yet vibrant atmosphere in this part of our Rainbow Nation. Shop, eat, or simply sit at the quayside and watch boats rocking on the tide.
In and around the town of Knysna you will also find art galleries and museums with plenty of traditional and indigenous products available from numerous other clothing and craft shops, with both formal & informal traders contributing to the general bustle of the town. The Knysna Mall on Main Road Knysna opened in November 2006 with a number of well known retail chain stores, lifestyle shops and coffee bars.
